15th Didcot Cubs receive Chief Scouts Silver Award - 27-12-2007

During 2007 the Scout Association has had an eventful year with our Centenary celebrations, the World Scout Jamboree held at Hylands Park.  Chelmsford hosting 40,000 Scouts from 216 Countries and the festival of Scouting being held in the O2 Arena London.

While all this has been going on Cub Scouts around the Country have been working hard to achieve the highest Award in the Cub Scout Section, including Samuel Hall and Tommy Fagan of 15th Didcot Cub Scout Group.

To achieve this award the two boys had to hold the Outdoor Challenge and two other challenges with a choice of Creative, Fitness, Global or Caring.  They also had to take on a personal Challenge which is done in the last six months before moving onto the Scout Troup.

Tommy has completed Creative, Outdoor and Caring challenges. For the Creative he took part in various craft activities and a black sack fashion at camp, where they had to design their own clothes out of black sacks. For the outdoor, he completed the required 2 nights under canvas (Total 4 nights away) the aerial runway, assault course, hikes and wide games. As part of the caring challenge he learn some first aid gaining his Emergency aid badge.  He also completed badges and activities based around Personal, Road and Home safety.

Samuel also completed the same 3 challenges but also did backwoods cooking, pioneering, and hikes. He also learnt to play the guitar as part of his creative challenge. He has completed 15 nights away as a Cub and gained 20 activity badges. Samuel also went to the Jamboree.

As well as all this they both completed a personal challenge which is to improve on something they either already know or to try hard at something they find difficult. (This is the hardest part of the award as many Cubs can complete the challenges as they are mostly leader initiated and completed as part of the normal meetings, but this is something they need to choose for themselves and work hard at it to achieve the Chief Scout Silver Award.  Well done to Tommy and Samuel and all the Cub Scouts through out the country that have achieved this award.  Its is a great achievement to everyone and their Cub Scout leaders.
