23rd Didcot Cubs Clean up at the Orchard Centre - 19-10-2007

Shoppers in Didcot's Orchard Centre, on Saturday 20th October, would have found it clean and tidy thanks to the hard work of 23rd Didcot cubs who spent a cold evening undertaking a community litter pick, in the Orchard Centre, on the evening of Friday 19th October.

This term the cubs have been studying the global issues of waste, recycling, environment and other countries and cultures. They collected an amazing 5 bin bags full of rubbish making the shopping centre a much more pleasant environment for Saturday's shoppers.

The Scouts District Commissioner Rob Vaines, visited the activity and said “It was fantastic to see so many cubs and scouts of the 23rd Didcot Group engaged in a public service activity. By carrying out activities of this sort they are really challenged to think about their own behaviours in terms of waste management, and the effect those behaviours have on other people.”

Baloo (aka Di Chesterman) said “I was really proud to take the group into the Orchard Centre. They carried out the litter pick task quickly and efficiently and managed to collect an amazing 5 bin bags full of rubbish. I was especially pleased that so many parents were willing to stay and support the activity. Without additional helpers, we are unable to carry out off site activities and yet these are the activities that really benefit the community as well as the group members.”
