How you can help the people of Burma - 11-05-2008

With up to 100,000 people feared dead and over one million homeless, Burma is in desperate need of support from around the world to deal with the aftermath of Sunday’s tropical cyclone. Scouts across the UK can help by raising funds and donating to Shelterbox. Shelterbox ensure that the most effective disaster relief aid reaches those who need the most help in the quickest possible time. They are the first UK based NGO to get relief aid into Burma. Tents, water purification equipment, mosquito nets, cooking equipment and tools make up the contents of the globally recognised green box.

Donations of £490 will ensure one complete box will get there and help over ten people for a minimum of 6 months. The aim is to get over 2000 boxes to Burma in the next week. To find out more about how you can help Shelterbox you can either email info@shelterbox.org them or call on 01326 569782. If your Scout Group or Section is raising money for the people of Burma, we'd like to hear from you. Please email us telling us what you're planning on doing.
