Marion receives Civic Award - 10-01-2008

Applause rang out as community groups from across Didcot were celebrated for their work at a special ceremony.

The John Eldridge Awards Evening at the Civic Hall in Didcot was attended by almost 100 people and acknowledged the work of organisations which recieved grant aid from Didcot Town Council.

The John Eldridge Award for Voluntary Service was won by Marion Fountain for her commitment to the 23rd Didcot Scout Group since the 1960s.

Mayor Bernard Cooper acknowledged Mrs Fountain's long service to the Scouts, which included her work as Group Scout Leader.

He said: "It is important to recognise the work of volunteers within the town.  They are a very important list of people and the town would be very much reduced if we did not appreciate them."
