There are 3 Explorer Units in Didcot District.
Scouts from any Troop in Didcot District can go to whichever Unit they like.
It’s flexible. There are badges & Awards if you want them.
Duke of Edinburgh Award is available.
You can become a Young Leader if you want to.

Welcome to the Didcot District Explorer Scouts

Units:
Explorers is a District Section of Scouting, and Didcot has three Units:
Didcot Explorer Scout Unit is located in Didcot town, and meet each week.
Harwell Explorer Scout Unit meet in Harwell village once a week.
The Young Leader Unit meets about twice each term, alternating between Didcot and Harwell.

Each Unit accepts Scouts from any of the six Groups in Didcot, and Explorers can join in with any Explorer activities throughout the District, regardless of which Unit they have registered with.

Explorers is geared for 14 – 18 year olds, with flexibility built in, and a more relaxed attitude to meet the demands of the age range.

Events and activities
Explorers is designed to be flexible, so its members can join in with what they want, when they want, where they want.

Didcot and Harwell Units provide a Scouting programme that is fun and full of challenging activities. Each Unit provides an active programme, where badges and Awards can be gained. Both Units operate the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Young Leaders
Explorer Scouts have the opportunity of becoming Young Leaders in whichever Section (Beavers, Cubs, or Scouts) and whichever Group they choose. Being a Young Leader encourages early development of Leadership skills, and training is provided. Most Explorers enjoy being Young Leaders, whilst at the same time following the programme of activities and the Awards schemes. Some Explorers prefer to concentrate on the active programme and Awards, and don’t become Young Leaders, and some Explorers like to be Young Leaders and don’t follow the programme. What’s great about Explorers is that each Explorer can choose.

Website
The Explorers have created their own website, which members can regularly use to organise themselves via the chat forum, and where the programme of events is available.

Whose in charge?
Each Unit has an adult Leader, but the Explorers have a big say in what goes on in their own Unit, what’s in the programme, and also what goes on in the District, and their views are carried all the way up to Headquarters.
